The following types of original contributions will be considered for publication:
Original research reports - this category is intended for original clinical or basic science studies. Original research articles may contain up to 3000 words (not including references, tables and figures) and not more than 50 references.
Review papers of specialized topics within the scope of the Journal will be considered for publication. This category is intended for scholarly, comprehensive reviews that summarize and critically evaluate research in the field and provide with implications for clinical practice and future research. Review articles should not exceed 5000 words (not including references, figures and tables) and may contain up to 100 references.
Case Reports should not exceed 2000 words and 20 references. Two tables and/or figures are allowed.
Commentaries are intended mostly for short educational reviews or opinion articles on scientific issues within the scope of the Journal. Commentaries should be comprised of not more than 1500 words (not including references, tables and figures), not more than 30 references and 1 table or figure.
Editorials are mostly opinion articles of general interest within the scope of the Journal should not exceed 1000 words (not including references) and 15 references.
Letters to the Editor - should comprise not more than 500 words not including references, not more than 5 references. Letters on any biomedical, behavioral, health policy, etc. topics are welcomed.
Conference Reports should comprise not more than 1000 words.
Book Reviews should comprise not more than 500 words.
Preparing the manuscript
Manuscript submission: Authors are requested to submit manuscript text, tables (in MS Word format) and artwork (in electronic form) together with accompanying cover letter as e-mail attachments to the Editorial office at aurelija.podlipskyte@lsmuni.lt. If you are using another word-processing program, please save the manuscript text file as Word for Windows document.
Ethics. All research involving human subjects or animals should be carried out in accordance with The Code of Ethics of the World Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki) for experiments involving humans; EU directive 2010/63/EU for animal experiments. Authors should include a statement in the Methods section that the study and its consent procedures were approved by a Human Subjects Bioethics Review Committee and subjects participated with informed, voluntary, written consent (or that such consent was waived by the Committee because of the nature of the research).
Conflict of Interest. All authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could have potentially inappropriately influenced (bias) their work. Information regarding potential conflicts of interest for each author should be included in the cover letter.
Submission declaration. In an accompanying cover letter, authors should state that the manuscript, or parts of it, have not been and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication. Articles are accepted for publication on the condition that they are original contributions, submitted solely to the Biological Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology. Authors submitting manuscripts do so on the understanding that if accepted for publication, copyright in the article, including the right to reproduce the article in all forms and media, shall be assigned exclusively to the Biological Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology.
Manuscript submission. Submission items should include a cover letter and the manuscript file (including title page, summary, keywords, main text, references, tables, figures, and table/figure legends). Manuscripts should be prepared using a 11-point font, double-spaced with 1-in. margins on all sides. Unusual typeface is acceptable only if it is clear and legible. Formatting, such as Greek letters, italics, super- and subscripts, may be used: the coding scheme for such elements must be consistent throughout. Please refrain from using end notes as references. Authors are responsible for applying for permission for both printed and electronic rights for all borrowed material and are responsible for paying any fees related to the applications of these permissions.
Publication fees. The Journal has no article processing charges (APCs) nor article submission charges.
Open Access Policy. Biological Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Therefore the journal is free for anybody to read and download, and to copy and disseminate for educational purposes. More information on SHERPA/RoMEO registry.
Creative Commons licensing information. Authors contributing to the open access titles agree to publish their articles under the Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial 4.0 (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited. The material cannot be used for commercial purposes. Authors retain copyright of their work, with first publication rights granted to Biological Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology.
Title page. Should include title of the paper, names and affiliations of all authors, contact information, including e-mail, of corresponding author.
Summary. Should contain up to 350 words and include Objective, Methods, Results and Conclusions sections. Immediately after the abstract please provide from 3 to 6 keywords.
Introduction. Provide with adequate background avoiding a detailed literature review or summary of the results, and state the objectives of the work.
Materials and methods. Sufficient detail allowing the work to be reproduced should be provided. Methods already published should be indicated by a reference.
Results.Should be concise and clear. This section of the paper should discuss significance of the results instead of repeating them. Extensive citation of the published literature should be avoided.
Funding source. All funding sources employed for the presented study should be provided together with funding agencies and grant numbers (if appropriate).
Tables and illustrations. Must be cited in order in the text using Arabic numerals. Each illustration file should be named logically with the figure number (e.g., Fig1.tif). Figure legends should be typed (double-spaced) and included at the end of the manuscript file. Lettering in figures should be large enough to be readable when reduced to fit the printed page. Tables should have a title and be as simple as possible.
Artwork: Figures and illustrations should be provided in JPEG format.
Reference style
References should be compiled in numerical order in accordance with the Vancouver style:
In text: Indicate references by number(s) in square brackets in line with the text. The actual authors can be referred to, but the reference number(s) must always be given.
List: Number the references (numbers in round brackets) in the list in the order in which they appear in the text.
Journal articles: (List all authors, but if the number exceeds six, give six followed by et al.):

Web references: As a minimum, the full URL should be given and the date when the reference was last accessed. Any further information, if known (author names, dates, reference to a source publication, etc.), should also be given.
Corresponding author. Clearly indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, also post-publication. Ensure that phone numbers (with country and area code) are provided in addition to the e-mail address and the complete postal address.
Referee suggestion. When submitting, authors will be asked to provide a list of three potential reviewers for their manuscript, with e-mail addresses.
Review procedure. All articles undergo double-blind peer review. In most cases, manuscripts are reviewed by two referees. The editor reserves the right to reject any unsuitable manuscript without requesting an external review.
After acceptance. Contributors are provided with galley proofs and asked to proofread them immediately for typesetting errors, returning them to the publisher within the week. Important changes in data are allowed, but authors will be charged for excessive alterations in proof.
