LBPD_logoThe new President and board members of Lithuanian Biological Psychiatric Society (LSBP) were elected during the meeting on 26 of June, 2018.

The President of LSBP was elected doctor-psychiatrist Vesta Steiblienė, Associate Professor at Psychiatry clinic of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LUHS) and Deputy director for Clinic at Institute of Neurosciences (NI) of LUHS.

The new Board members:

Vice President - doctor- psychiatrist Edgaras Diržius, assistant at Psychiatric Clinic, LUHS

Secretary - doctor- neurosurgeon dr. Adomas Bunevičius, the Leader and the Senior Researcher at Behavioral Medical Laboratory at Institute of Neurosciences (NI) of LUHS; editor of LSBP Journal "Biological Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology"

Treasurer- doctor-psychiatrist Ramune Mazaliauskiene, assistant at the Psychiatric Clinic of LUHS and Director of JSC "Neuromeda"

Member of the Board - doctor- psychiatrist Arūnas Germanavičius, Professor at Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University, Director of the Republican Vilnius Psychiatric Hospital.

Net_and_MeAs an addendum to the 1st COST action CA16207 meeting Dr. Julius Burkauskas has been elected, through chairman's action, to the position of  Science Communications Officer. He will be responsible for working alongside Dr. Prof. Naomi Fineberg (Grant Holder Manager/Administrator) on streamlining communication within the network and to develop efficient communications with the outside world.

logo_costProblematic use of the internet (PUI) and its impact on the health and wellbeing of European citizens represents an emerging challenge for mental health research. A Cost Action “European Network for Problematic Usage of the Internet” was established on 2017 October 23 to bring together a multidisciplinary and geographically diverse group of experts and opinion leaders under one European-led Network, to leverage the existing funded research into a more coherent programme to advance the understanding of PUI from a bio-psycho-social perspective, clarify the brain-based undergirding’s and develop effective interventions.

SmigelskasWe are very happy to introduce dr. Kastytis Šmigelskas as Editorial Board member of the Biological Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology.

Kastytis Šmigelskas is associate professor at Department of Health Psychology and senior researcher at Health Research Institute, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. He graduated in Masters of Public Health and later studied and defended PhD thesis at University of Eastern Finland. The main areas of his research include psychosocial determinants of health (mostly but not exclusively – personality and health) as well as determinants of child health. His areas of expertise also include the research methodology and biostatistics.

BMC Neurology logoRare, prion caused, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease was diagnosed for the first time in a live person in Lithuania. Disease manifestation created a conundrum for specialists in Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinics. Clinicians from five departments - neurology, psychiatry, radiology, pathology and neurosurgery have been working in close cooperation.

In this Journal issue Musneckis and colleagues present results of a study that evaluated the association of sexual function with personality traits in medical students. Sexual functioning was not associated with big-five personality traits, but the study revealed other important predictors of sexual health among future medical doctors.
